For the past month, Ava has been consistently waking me up around 2 a.m. She is almost 4! I thought I was past the whole getting up in the middle of the night part of mommying (or at least on a regular basis)! I do thin, however, that she might be sleep walking most nights. She never really makes much noise (but of course mommy radar hears her door open). She just walks out to the loft area and curls up on the ottoman. So every night, I have to get up and carry her back to bed. She really doesn't even seem to be awake. I have thought about leaving her on the ottoman, but I'm sure she would wake up with a stiff neck based on the way she props her head up on the arm of the couch and if she did wake up in a place other than her bed, she would most likely flip out. I am thinking of trying to find a baby gate that can I can put in the hall. That way she would still have access to the potty if she needed it, but wouldn't be able to walk around freely upstairs. Plus this would also help with the other sleep issue we've been having with her. She always wakes up at least 30 minutes before the rest of us. We ask her to play quietly in her room until everyone else wakes up, but you know how well 3 year olds listen. Her favorite thing to do when she wakes up now is to go into her sleeping brothers room, turn on the light, and climb into his crib so they can play together. While they seem to have fun doing this, it is wreaking havoc on Anderson's sleep! He is getting tired way before nap time since he is woken up so early. He usually sleeps until 7-7:30, but Ava has been waking him up around 6:15. If I hear her get up, I send her back to her room, but I don't always wake up. Oh the joys of being a mommy! I can't complain too much about this...it could be worse. I am very thankful my kids sleep through the night without much problem (past month excluded!). Hopefully her sleepwalking is a phase ans it will pass. I was a sleepwalker as a kid too.

I got an accordian style gate from Walmart.com a few weeks ago. It screws into the wall, but it swivels to hook to several different areas and hallways since it's 7 feet long. I love it! It's also extremely difficult for kids to ever unhook. I use it for just the opposite....to keep Grady from crawling in bed with his sister! :) Good luck!
