Red Light, Green Light

On Wednesday, I went to pick Ava up from preschool just like every other M, W, and F. This time however, when her teacher told her to put on her coat so she could take her to her grown up, Ava started bawling. I mean really crying! Her teacher continued to bring her over to me (almost pulling her along). Mrs. Law had to tell me me that Ava had gotten a yellow light! Ava was devastated because she did not want her teacher to tell me about the yellow light. (In the classroom they use a green, yellow, red light for behavior.) Mrs. Law did tell me that she wasn't sure the yellow light was deserved. She had left the classroom to go to the restroom and when she returned, Ava had spilled her water (from snack) onto the boy next to her and the classroom aid gave her a yellow light. I felt terrible that she was SO upset just because she got a warning! She has now fully recovered and hopefully she will be more careful with her water at snack time!

Happy Halloween!

We hope everyone had a great Halloween! We had a blast. I was worried I was going to go through the trouble of making the costumes and then kids wouldn't wear them, but they did great! They got the hang of trick or treating very quickly! ;) Here are some pics from our trick or treating adventure.

Sneak peak at Halloween

I have been wanting to learn to sew for awhile now, so I had this brilliant idea that I could make Halloween costumes for the kids and my nephews this year. They are going to be Dorothy, scarecrow, tin man, and the lion from Wizard of Oz. We already had a lion outfit, so that left only 3. I found a pattern for really cheap on eBay. I thought how hard could it be? I have multiple family members that sew so I figured with a little help from them, I could do it. I think I over estimated my ability and the time I would need. I gave myself a month, but when you have 2 little ones wrapped around your leg most of the day, it is hard to find a chunk of time to focus on it. Anyway, I have Dorothy an the tin man started but am going to have to get some help to finish up those this weekend. However, I finished the scarecrow today. I did this all by myself! It fits and everything. If you're looking closely, the stitching is a nightmare and things aren't perfectly straight but for my first attempt, not too shabby! ;) I couldn't have done this without the help of my MIL though! She helped get started by teaching me how to cut out the patterns and gave me some basic sewing knowledge.

The only thing missing from this pic is the twine that gets wrapped around the waist and hat. The lighter fabric is a hood. Kind of hard to tell without a model.

Hey moms! If your house is anything like ours, I'm sure you do MANY loads of laundry every week. For those of you who knew Ava when she was little, she had quite the vocab by the time she was 18months. Anderson, on the other hand, has been what I like to call a "selective mute." He really has said nothing but mama for months. At his 12 month check up, I shrugged it off when they said he should have b/t 4-7 words. Some kids have to be below average so there can be an average right? But as 18 months approached and he still wasn't saying anything, I started to get a little concerned. I started to wonder what the Dr. would say when we went to his check up. But FINALLY about 2 weeks ago, he started saying several words. He now has around 15 words. I honestly think he has the ability to say many more words, but why talk when Ava will do it for you!
